TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was officially implemented on Friday, October 10, 2025. However, the situation around the Indonesian Hospital in North Gaza is not yet completely safe.

Based on a press release received by Tempo on Thursday, October 16, 2025, local volunteers from the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) reported that Israeli troops are still holding their ground around the hospital complex, especially at the back of the building.

"I can only enter the Wisma Joserizal Jurnalis from the south because of the Israeli tanks and ongoing gunfire," said one of the MER-C volunteers.

The volunteer mentioned that the conditions are quite severe, with large holes in the walls and scattered belongings due to the attacks.

The Indonesian Hospital was forced to cease operations after being attacked and forcibly evacuated by the Israeli troops.

Following the ceasefire, local MER-C volunteers who also reside in North Gaza began to assess the current condition of the hospital and the security situation in its vicinity.

To date, Israeli troops are still maintaining their position around the hospital complex and have not fully withdrawn.

Gaza Residents Return to the North

Since the ceasefire was announced, Gaza residents who were previously displaced have begun returning to the northern territories. Many of them are walking or hitching rides on trucks across Salah Al-Din Road, one of the main routes in Gaza.

Several humanitarian aids have also been reported to enter the area, although the situation on the ground is still not stable at this time.

According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli government has ratified the ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The agreement also includes the initial stage of U.S. President Donald Trump's 20-point plan to end the war, including the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
