TEMPO.CO, Jakarta KAI Commuter ensures the readiness of 102 train sets, which undergo routine maintenance, to ensure optimal Commuter Line operations during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year's holidays.

"Various steps have been taken to support public mobility during the Christmas and New Year's period. KAI Commuter conducts comprehensive periodic maintenance of Commuter Line facilities to ensure the safety, reliability, and comfort of passengers," said Karina Amanda, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday, November 2, 2025.

She explained that Commuter Line maintenance is a crucial part of efforts to maintain service reliability on weekdays and during the holiday season.

"In the Greater Jakarta area, we conduct comprehensive and scheduled inspections, maintenance, and repairs on all Commuter Line train sets," Karina said.

Daily inspections and maintenance to ensure the reliability and operational readiness of the Commuter Line are carried out at four KRL (electric commuter trains) depots and 10 KRL Affairs Supervision (PUKRL) locations located in the Commuter Line storage area after each day's operation.

Meanwhile, periodic preventive maintenance and the preparation of operational backup Commuter Line facilities are carried out at four KRL depots in the Greater Jakarta area.

Karina also mentioned that routine maintenance and minor repairs for the Jabodetabek Commuter Line are carried out at four KRL depots: the Depok KRL Depot, the Bogor KRL Depot, the Bukit Duri KRL Depot, and the Manggarai KRL Depot.

There, maintenance is carried out periodically, including monthly, quarterly, six-monthly, and 12-monthly. In addition, checks are carried out on the braking system, automatic doors, electrical systems, and the Commuter Line interior to ensure the facilities are always in optimal condition every day.

Heavy maintenance and major repairs are carried out at two overhaul facilities: the Depok KRL Depot and the Manggarai KRL Depot. These overhaul areas carry out more extensive, detailed, and comprehensive maintenance or major repairs to all parts of the Commuter Line facilities.

KAI Commuter currently manages 1,072 Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) or KRL units, totaling 102 Commuter Line trains, which operate daily in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) agglomeration area.

The Depok KRL Depot is the largest KRL maintenance facility, covering an area of 26 hectares. The depot is equipped with a train washing area, an underfloor wheel lathe, and overhaul and semi-overhaul facilities.

The Manggarai KRL Depot also has overhaul facilities for major repairs, while other KRL depots focus on daily and routine monthly maintenance to ensure all trains are ready for daily operation.

For trains outside the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area, KAI Commuter also has the Solo Jebres KRL Depot for maintenance and repairs of Commuter Line trains operating in the Yogyakarta-Palur area.

Similar to other KRL depots in Greater Jakarta, the Solo Jebres KRL Depot maintains the reliable operation of the Commuter Line trains on a daily basis.

Each inspection stage is carried out in detail by experienced technical personnel certified by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation.

Certification of maintenance personnel is also carried out periodically to ensure the competence of Commuter Line maintenance and repair personnel.

"For us, maintenance is not just a routine activity, but a form of responsibility to provide a safe and comfortable journey for our users," said Karina.
