TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a renewed warning to the United States on Friday, July 11, 2025, stating that American military bases in the Middle East could once again come under attack by Iran.
"The attack on Al Udeid Air Base was not a minor incident, but a major one that could happen again," said Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, as quoted by Al Arabiya.
He was referring to last month’s ballistic missile strike on the largest U.S. base in Qatar, which Iran launched in response to a U.S. attack on one of its nuclear sites. "We are capable of reaching important American sites in the region," Khamenei added.
On the same day, the Pentagon confirmed that one of the Iranian missiles did strike the base. Satellite images released earlier this week showed damage to the base’s radome, a structure typically used to house communication equipment. Al Udeid serves as the forward headquarters of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) in the region.
General Dan Caine, Chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, acknowledged the incident. "The US is aware that something managed to penetrate the layered air defense system," he said. He also commended the U.S. forces who responded to the attack, describing it as "the largest single Patriot battle in US military history."
The Pentagon further confirmed that Al Udeid was struck by a ballistic missile on June 23. "An Iranian ballistic missile struck Al Udeid Air Base on June 23, while another missile was intercepted by the US and Qatar's air defense system," said Pentagon Spokesperson Sean Parnell in a statement.
Parnell noted that the impact caused only limited damage to equipment and infrastructure. "There were no casualties. Al Udeid Air Base remains fully operational and capable of carrying out its mission, along with our Qatari partners, to ensure security and stability in the region," he said.
