TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia national team coach Patrick Kluivert praised Ricky Kambuaya for his outstanding performance in the match against China at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Indonesia secured a 1-0 victory, with Ole Romeny scoring the match’s only goal.
This marked Kambuaya's second consecutive appearance under Kluivert, following his involvement in the World Cup 2026 qualifier against Vietnam last March.
Kambuaya, who started on the left wing, made his first start for the national team since November 2023, when he featured against the Philippines.
"Ricky kambuaya, well, I don't have to say many things. For me, Ricky played a fantastic game today," Kluivert said in the post-match press conference at SUGBK.
The Dewa United midfielder impressed during his 83 minutes on the pitch, winning a penalty for Romeny and displaying skillful ball control that frequently troubled China’s defense, particularly Zexiang Yang.
According to Sofascore, Kambuaya registered one off-target shot, one successful dribble, 25 touches, 14 passes with 86% accuracy, one key pass, one accurate long ball, five successful ground duels, one aerial duel won, three fouls suffered, and one successful tackle.
"He showed a really big heart. He's a very shy player, but on the field, he's really a good player," Kluivert added.
Kambuaya’s appearance against China was his 35th cap since debuting in October 2021 against Chinese Taipei. He has scored five goals and provided seven assists for the national team.
He was one of seven Liga 1 Indonesia players selected by Kluivert for the match. Alongside Rizky Ridho, Yakob Sayuri, and Egy Maulana Vikry, he started the game, while Beckham Putra, Stefano Lilipaly, and Ramadhan Sananta were brought on in the second half.
