TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) ensures that 707 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers for signal transmission have been restored following the Sumatra floods. The recovery has been carried out within the last 24 hours.

"The Ministry of Communication and Digital continues to coordinate with mobile operators to recover BTS towers that have been disrupted due to the flood disaster in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh Province," Komdigi wrote in the official statement on Saturday, November 29th, 2025.

On last Saturday, 707 signal transmission towers were operating normally out of a total of 2,463 towers that had been disrupted since 07:00 on Friday, November 28th. Currently, there are 1,756 towers still under recovery.

According to Komdigi's data, the BTS towers still experiencing disruptions are located in the provinces of Aceh (975 out of 3,414 towers), North Sumatra (707 out of 9,612 towers), and West Sumatra (74 out of 3,739 towers). Currently, the backbone line in North Sumatra connecting the Rantau - Padang Sidempuan and Sibolga - Barus - Manduamas sections has been successfully restored after previously being cut off due to landslides. "The backbone line in the Banda Aceh - Bireun and Samalanga sections is also reported to have been restored and is operational again," Komdigi wrote.

Prior to this, heavy rain has hit three provinces on the island of Sumatra since November 20th, 2025. According to the analysis by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the cyclone Senyar moved in the South China Sea and affected the Indonesian region, especially Sumatra.

Subsequently, a few days ago, floods and landslides occurred, damaging residential areas and public facilities. Currently, the government has not declared the Sumatra landslides and floods as a national disaster. Nevertheless, several government agencies are still assisting in the evacuation of victims and the distribution of logistics at various points.
