US-Israel Airstrikes Target Gandhi Hospital in Tehran

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian state television reported that US-Israeli airstrikes struck Gandhi Hospital in Tehran, causing significant damage to the facility as hostilities intensify between the two sides.

Footage broadcast by Press TV and cited by Anadolu Agency showed shattered windows and visible damage to sections of the hospital’s facade. Security was tightened around the compound following the strike, while medical teams assessed the extent of the damage.

Video aired by the broadcaster showed nurses evacuating newborn babies and transferring them to safer locations. Images circulating online depicted debris scattered across hospital corridors, including near wheelchairs.

Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (ISNA) described the incident as a “Zionist-American air strikes.” Separate footage published by Fars News Agency and Mizan News Agency showed damage inside the hospital, with broken glass and debris covering parts of the floor.

Two witnesses in the Gandhi Street area said the facility sustained heavy damage and that patients were being evacuated. Social media videos appeared to show chaotic scenes outside the hospital, with smoke visible in the background and people searching for relatives.

Additional clips shared by Tasnim News Agency showed nurses carrying infants in their arms as sirens sounded. Other footage captured people running in different directions amid confusion. There was no immediate confirmation of casualties.

Earlier, the Iranian Red Crescent released images indicating that its headquarters and several medical facilities had also been affected by the airstrikes.

WHO Chief Condemns Attack

“Health is not a target,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), in response to reports of damage to Gandhi Hospital.

Reports of Tehran's Gandhi Hospital being damaged during today’s bombardment of the Iranian capital are extremely worrying,” Tedros wrote on the social media platform X, as cited by NDTV.

He said the WHO was working to verify the information and stressed that “all efforts must be taken to prevent health facilities from being caught up in the ongoing conflict.”

Health facilities are protected under international humanitarian law,” he added.

Explosions were reported across northern Tehran late Sunday as airstrikes continued overnight. Israel said it targeted central areas of the Iranian capital following a joint US-Israeli operation that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader a day earlier.

In response, Iran launched missiles and drones toward Israel and targeted US military bases across the Gulf region, as well as sites in Saudi Arabia and Dubai.

The conflict entered its third day on Monday, March 2, 2026, with regional tensions escalating sharply. Governments across the region have heightened security measures, amid growing concerns over the safety of civilians in densely populated urban centers.

Israel and the United States carried out a similar operation against Iran last June, which triggered a 12-day conflict before a ceasefire was declared.
