TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation is following the safety mandate issued by Airbus and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regarding the flight control computer components on Airbus A320 aircraft. The mandate was issued by EASA on November 28, 2025, and is effective from November 30, 2025, at 06:59 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
The mandate requires all flight operators to ensure that the Aileron Elevator Computer (ELAC) is in a serviceable condition before the aircraft resumes operations. Director General of Air Transportation, Lukman F. Laisa, stated that Indonesia will fully adopt the instructions, similar to aviation regulators worldwide.
"This condition is expected to cause flight schedule disruptions, considering the large number of A320 fleets operating in Indonesia and globally," Lukman said in a written statement on Saturday, November 29, 2025.
Currently, Lukman mentioned that there are six airlines in Indonesia operating Airbus A320, namely Batik Air, Super Air Jet, Citilink, Indonesia AirAsia, Pelita Air, and TransNusa.
Lukman explained that out of a total of 207 Airbus A320 aircraft in Indonesia, 143 units are actively operating. However, 38 of them are confirmed to be affected and must undergo inspection and repair in accordance with airworthiness instructions.
The repair process is estimated to take three to five days from the issuance of the mandate. During this period, airlines are starting to prepare mitigation measures as the potential for flight delays and cancellations cannot be avoided.
Lukman urged passengers with flight schedules between November 30 and December 4, 2025, to immediately contact their respective airlines to confirm their flight status. "We urge the public to confirm their schedules as potential changes may occur," Lukman said.
He also requested airport operators and airlines to reorganize operations and ensure that mitigation services are provided to passengers in the event of delays or cancellations. Lukman stated that this instruction has operational impacts. "However, safety remains the top priority," he said.
