TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of the Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia announced that, pursuant to NOTAM Number A3341/26, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was temporarily closed from 01:30 WIB to 05:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) due to the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.
"This action was taken following 'paper test' results conducted on Sunday (September 6) between 00:35 WIB and 01:05 WIB, which indicated the presence of volcanic ash at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport," said Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
Based on monitoring data as of September 5, 2026, at 22:00 WIB, 33 flights at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport were affected.
Regarding international flights, there were 16 cancellations, seven delays, and five reschedulings. Affected routes included flights to and from Singapore (SIN), Hong Kong (HKG), Sydney (SYD), Seoul/Incheon (ICN), Doha (DOH), Amsterdam (AMS), and Kuala Lumpur (KUL).
For domestic flights, there were four cancellations and one flight diversion. Affected routes included flights to and from Lampung (TKG), as well as flights to Denpasar (DPS) and Surabaya (SUB).
The DGCA is also paying close attention to the recovery of flight schedules on September 6, 2026, given the potential for cascading impacts on aircraft rotation, fleet availability, subsequent flight schedules, and terminal capacity.
"Safety remains the top priority in every operational decision, including flight schedule adjustments made by airlines. Operational adjustments will continue to be made dynamically based on evolving conditions on the ground," said Lukman. They stated that they would continue to conduct intensive monitoring and coordination with airline operators, airport management, air navigation services, and the BMKG regarding the impact of Mount Anak Krakatau's eruptive activity on flight operations, particularly at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK).
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation advises the public and prospective passengers traveling via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to monitor the latest information from airlines regarding their flight status and to plan their travel times while taking into account potential schedule changes.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation will continue to monitor the situation in coordination with airline operators, airport management, air navigation services, the BMKG, and other relevant parties, and will provide updates should there be significant changes to flight operations.
