TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) for the operational area of Jakarta, and KAI Commuter, officially closed Karet Station for boarding and disembarking the Commuter Line. Passengers are diverted to Sudirman Baru or BNI City stations starting today, September 1, 2026.
KAI Commuter Vice President Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said access to Sudirman Baru or BNI City stations is available through the corridor next to Karet Station and is integrated with the west hall below BNI City. The hall is equipped with electronic gates, ticket counters, and other service facilities.
"This station can accommodate up to 2,000 passengers per hour," Karina said in a written statement on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
BNI City is also accessible from Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, as the station has established entrances and exits, equipped with gates and ticket counters. This access will facilitate passengers heading towards the office district in the Sudirman area.
Karina said officers are stationed around the station to help passengers with access to BNI City station. "Therefore, always pay attention to information and directions from station staff," she said.
According to KAI Commuter, 8,679 passengers had disembarked at BNI City as of 10:00 a.m. this morning, while 641 had boarded. This represents a 326 percent increase compared to the previous 2,036 passengers disembarking at BNI City.
KAI Commuter predicts passengers boarding at Sudirman Baru Station or BNI City to surge to 20,513 and disembarking to 18,696. The number of Cikarang Commuter Line trips passing through the station remains unchanged at 264.
"The schedule and location of Commuter Line trains departing from Sudirman Baru Station can be viewed through the C-Access app," said Karina.
Karet Station will be closed from September 1 to December 31, 2026, to accommodate the integration project between Karet Station and Sudirman Baru or BNI City to organize passenger flow and improve access in the area around the station.
