NBA Finals: Knicks End 53-Year NBA Title Drought With Victory over Spurs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The New York Knicks captured their first NBA Finals championship in 53 years after defeating the host San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the Finals in San Antonio, Sunday (Western Indonesian Time).

Knicks star Jalen Brunson delivered a brilliant performance, scoring 45 points, including a 13-point run in the fourth quarter to seal the dramatic victory for the visitors.

"I'm speechless. This is everything I've ever dreamed of," said Jalen Brunson while celebrating on the court, as quoted by the NBA's official website.

The New York Knicks secured a 4-1 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs. Interestingly, in each of their four wins in the Finals, the Knicks have managed to rally from double-digit deficits, including a 16-point deficit in Game 5.

Brunson's 45 points also broke the Knicks' record for most points scored in a Finals game, previously held by legend Willis Reed with 38 points in 1970. Brunson admitted he was impressed by his team's mentality, which always found a way to bounce back whenever they were not expected to.

Besides Brunson, Knicks duo Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart also contributed to the victory, contributing a combined 27 points. Bridges scored 14 points, while Hart had 13, bolstering the team's offensive firepower.

For the San Antonio Spurs, rookie Dylan Harper was the top scorer with 25 points. Meanwhile, star Victor Wembanyama finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks.

This victory at the Spurs' home ground cemented the Knicks' perfect record this season, which has seen them win four straight away decisive games. Thousands of New York fans even traveled to Texas to witness the historic moment they had been waiting for since 1973.
