TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dhaneswari Retnowardhani, Relations Manager for Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), confirmed that the company's assets and staff in Venezuela remain unaffected by the current geopolitical turmoil between the United States and Venezuela. She noted that Pertamina is the majority shareholder of Maurel & Prom (M&P), which manages several key oil assets in the region, owning 71.09 percent of the company.

"PIEP continues to closely monitor the evolving situation on the ground," she stated in an official written release on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Retnowardhani stated that Pertamina is also coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Caracas, Venezuela. Regular communication ensures the safety of all personnel and the continuity of field work.

Earlier, United States forces captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Authorities moved Maduro and Flores to the United States. They are currently in federal custody in New York, facing drug-related charges.

"The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country," US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform.

Trump also indicated that Venezuela would remain under U.S. control for a "temporary" duration. Furthermore, he has exerted pressure on Venezuelan authorities to grant U.S. corporations direct control over the nation's vast oil commodities.
