Police Probe Suspected Weapons and Homemade Bombs at North Jakarta High School Explosion Site

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police are still working to secure the site of the explosion at SMAN 72 (high school), Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Friday, November 7, 2025. The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the crime scene is being secured and sterilized by the bomb disposal team from Gegana.

Meanwhile, they will create a post to help families search for their children. "The police's efforts for the victims who are still at Yarsi Hospital and Jakarta Islamic Hospital are focused on recovery and setting up a post," said Budi when confirmed by Tempo on Friday.

The explosion occurred at SMAN 72 on Friday, November 7, 2025, around 12:15 PM local time. According to information, the first two explosions occurred in the SMAN 72 hall during the Friday prayer sermon, and the third at the school's back entrance. As a result of the incident, 54 students were injured.

At the site of the explosion, an improvised explosive device, a remote, and a long-barreled airsoft gun, along with a revolver, were found. Regarding this discovery, Budi stated that they have not received such information. "It's still being investigated," said Budi.

Previously, the Spokesperson for the Indonesian National Police's Special Detachment 88 Antiterror (Densus 88),  Commissioner Mayndra Eka Wardhana, said they are still investigating the possibility of terrorism in the explosion. "Densus 88 is still investigating whether the incident involved terrorism or not," said Mayndra in his statement on Friday.
