TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have raided the house of a suspected student perpetrator of the explosion at SMAN 72 (high school) Jakarta, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. During the raid, the police seized several pieces of evidence.
"Indeed, there are several items, books, and documents that have been confiscated, taken, and brought by the Puslabfor (forensic laboratory center)," said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Grand Commissioner Budi Hermanto, when met at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Monday, November 10, 2025.
According to Budi, the police are still investigating the connection between these items and the explosion. "If they support an explosion incident at SMAN 72, they will be included as evidence. But if they do not contribute to the evidence collection process, then they might be disregarded," he said.
Budi added that the juvenile detained by the law is currently conscious. He has been transferred to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital to facilitate the investigation.
"Because the person concerned is already conscious. If the health condition continues to improve, it will make it easier for the investigators to request a statement," he said.
The explosion at SMA Negeri 72 Jakarta occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM while students and teachers were performing Friday prayers in the prayer room at the Kodamar Complex in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
The explosion occurred twice. The first explosion occurred in the third-floor prayer room. A second explosion occurred a few minutes later in the back of the cafeteria. The explosions resulted in at least 96 injuries, including the suspected perpetrator.
The explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta is suspected to have been planned by a student from the school. The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the alleged perpetrator is currently in the custody of the Indonesian National Police. His subordinates are investigating the perpetrator's identity, environment, and place of residence.
Listyo mentioned that the police are also investigating the motive. "We are delving into the motive of how the person then assembled and carried out the act. We will explain everything after all the field information, findings, and further investigation," said Listyo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, November 7, 2025.
