TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Premium users of adult content website Pornhub may be at risk following a cyber breach claimed by the hacker group Shiny Hunters. The group alleged it had infiltrated systems linked to the world’s largest pornography platform, potentially exposing user identities and financial data.

Shiny Hunters said it gained access to Pornhub’s internal administrative panel after compromising Mixpanel, a third-party analytics vendor used by the site. The hackers threatened to release personal data belonging to millions of users unless their ransom demands were met.

Pornhub has acknowledged the cybersecurity incident but stressed that its core systems were not directly breached. In an official statement cited by technology site Gizmodo on December 17, 2025, Pornhub said the attack targeted Mixpanel and affected a portion of its premium users.

Specifically, this situation affects only select Premium users. It is important to note this was not a breach of Pornhub Premium’s systems. Passwords, payment details, and financial information remain secure and were not exposed,” the company said, adding that there was no evidence of data being publicly distributed.

According to Shiny Hunters, the breach stemmed from phishing attacks carried out via SMS messages since November 2025, targeting Mixpanel staff. Through this method, the group claimed to have accessed data from several companies using the analytics service, including Pornhub and OpenAI.

The hackers alleged they obtained around 94 gigabytes of Pornhub-related data, totaling approximately 201 million records, although these claims have not been independently verified.

The incident has renewed concerns over digital data security and the risks posed by third-party vendors. As highlighted by Gizmodo, the case underscores that even major online platforms remain vulnerable to cyberattacks beyond their direct control.

For users, the breach serves as a reminder of the importance of strong digital hygiene, including unique passwords, two-factor authentication, and the use of separate email accounts for services involving sensitive personal data.
