TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto led the National Pilgrimage and Holy Reflection Ceremony to commemorate National Heroes Day at the Kalibata National Hero Cemetery, Jakarta, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, evening. Prabowo urged not to forget the services of the national heroes.
"Never forget their services, their heroism," Prabowo said before leading the moment of silence observed via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
The Head of State stated that the heroes fought against colonialism. On November 10, 1945, they fought to defend the independence and sovereignty of the nation from foreign powers.
"In 1945, on November 10, the heroes were very brave in fighting against foreign powers, especially the British, the winners of World War II," said Prabowo.
The former Defense Minister invited the public to pray in remembrance of the heroes who fought for the independence and honor of the nation. "Especially those who fell in the resistance against the foreign powers that supported the re-colonization of Indonesia by foreign nations," he said.
After conveying this, Prabowo led the moment of silence. Before the moment of silence, Prabowo placed a flower arrangement with the inscription 'My Heroes, My Role Models, Continuously Moving Forward with the Struggle.'
After the moment of silence, Prabowo greeted several officials who were present. Some of them were the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, the Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, the Navy Chief Admiral Muhammad Ali, and the Air Force Chief Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono.
Also present were Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Mahfud MD, Minister of Law and Human Rights Natalius Pigai, Yusril Ihza Mahendra; Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan; and Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar. The ceremony concluded.
Today, Prabowo will confer the title of National Hero to former President Soeharto at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, November 10, 2025. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said there are 10 names who will receive the title of National Hero, including Soeharto.
"Around 10 names will receive the title of National Hero," said Prasetyo after attending a limited meeting at Prabowo's residence in Kertanegara, Jakarta, on Sunday, November 9, 2025. "(Soeharto included?) Yes, included. Included," he continued.
