TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has set an ambitious target to complete the parliamentary and judicial complex in Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), in less than three years.
The goal was conveyed by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi following Prabowo’s visit to the site earlier this week.
Prasetyo said the president wants the buildings for the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), the House of Representatives (DPR), and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in IKN to be finished as soon as possible.
The same timeline applies to key judicial institutions, including the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court.
“From the outset, the President has emphasized the need to accelerate the construction of facilities for the legislative and judicial branches,” Prasetyo said in a written statement on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
During his visit, Prabowo instructed the IKN Authority to ensure that the legislative and judicial offices are completed before the end of his term in 2029.
“Hopefully, they can be completed in 2028,” Prasetyo added.
Prabowo traveled to IKN in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, on Monday, January 12, 2026. His arrival was broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
The president arrived at around 5:47 p.m. Central Indonesia Time, wearing a brown safari-style outfit and a hat.
He was accompanied by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and was welcomed by IKN Authority head Basuki Hadimuljono.
The visit to IKN marked the final agenda of Prabowo’s trip to Kalimantan. Earlier in the day, he inaugurated 166 “people’s schools” at Integrated People’s School (SRT) 9 in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan.
He then inaugurated a Pertamina oil refinery in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Monday evening before continuing on to IKN.
This visit marked Prabowo’s first trip to IKN as president. His previous visit took place on September 13, 2024, when he had been declared president-elect but was still serving as defense minister under former president Joko Widodo.
