Prabowo Invites Brazilian President to Celebrate His Birthday in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has invited the President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, to celebrate his birthday in Indonesia in October 2025. Prabowo said he has visited Brazil twice in his capacity as the Indonesian President.

The first visit was in November 2024 when he attended the G-20 Summit. The second visit was in July 2025 when he attended the first BRICS Summit since Indonesia became a full member. "I look forward to President Lula visiting Indonesia this year," said Prabowo when meeting President Lula in Brasilia on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

Prabowo said that Lula could visit Indonesia in October 2025, as it is the month of both Lula's and Prabowo's birthdays. "Because we have birthdays that are close together. I want to celebrate President Lula's birthday in Indonesia," said Prabowo, who was greeted with applause by Lula and the guests.

Lula himself was born in Garanhuns, Pernambuco, Brazil, on October 27, 1945. Meanwhile, Prabowo was born in Jakarta on October 17, 1951.

Prabowo met Lula at the Planalto Palace in Brasilia during his state visit to Brazil on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Prabowo had a bilateral meeting with Lula after attending the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7, 2025.

During this meeting, President Prabowo was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif, Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi, Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Makarim, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahendra Siregar, and Indonesian Ambassador to Brazil Edi Yusup.
