TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto acknowledged that constructing 3 million houses is an ambitious and challenging goal, but he emphasized that high targets should not intimidate leaders as long as ministers work together to support the program.
Speaking at the mass contract signing and handover of 26,000 subsidized houses in the Pesona Kahuripan 10 Housing Complex, Cileungsi, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Monday, September 29, 2025, Prabowo said, “The 3 million houses are difficult to achieve, but it is our duty as transformative leaders to set high aspirations and face challenges bravely.”
He added that obstacles are inevitable and must be addressed collectively, even though the government has its shortcomings.
“We must not be afraid, we must not pretend to always be perfect, and we must not be easily satisfied,” he stated.
Prabowo praised Housing and Settlement Area Minister Maruarar Sirait for his performance, noting that he exceeded expectations.
“Maruarar initially promised a mass contract signing for 25,000 subsidized houses, but the final number reached 26,000 units. This goes beyond the usual pattern in Indonesia—good job, keep it up,” Prabowo said.
Minister Maruarar highlighted that the mass contract signing and handover is the largest in Indonesia’s history. He described the event as part of the ministry’s efforts to drive breakthroughs in the housing sector. Bogor was selected as the main site due to its robust developer ecosystem.
“The developers here are of high quality. We’ve checked and verified them,” he said.
Heru Pudyo Nugroho, Commissioner of BP Tapera, added that the mass signing of 26,000 subsidized houses contributes to the government’s target of distributing 350,000 units by the end of 2025.
“We have currently achieved 52.18 percent of the target,” he noted.
