TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto will hold a Cabinet Retreat at his private home in Hambalang, Bogor, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. All ministers and deputy ministers are expected to attend the event.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto confirmed that the retreat is a one-day agenda. "It is just one day for all cabinet members," Bima stated on Monday, January 5.
According to Bima, the invitation asks officials to wear light brown or khaki safari clothing. Bima has not yet received a specific list of topics for tomorrow's meeting. However, he estimated that the agenda would likely mirror the previous retreat held in late October 2024 at the Military Academy in Magelang shortly after the cabinet was sworn in.
This retreat is a key training session for the 136 members of Prabowo’s administration. Following the first retreat, Prabowo suggested that these meetings would happen on a regular basis. Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin shared this update previously.
"President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo, indicated that these activities are not just for the present, but will be held periodically," Sjafrie said on Monday, October 28, 2024.
He considered these periodic sessions as a checkpoint for cabinet performance. They help ensure that strategic goals are being met. The retreats also focus on law enforcement and the fight against corruption. Prabowo often reminds his team to lead by example within their own ministries and agencies.
The previous training in Magelang was a private affair. Prabowo led the sessions in the open spaces of the academy. The group discussed corruption prevention, budget policies, and better ways to run the government bureaucracy. Prabowo clarified that the sessions are not strictly military training. Instead, he uses them to provide clear guidance and build a cohesive team.
However, Prabowo does use 'The Military Way' as a framework for his leadership. He believes that discipline and loyalty are the core of any successful organization. "I specifically ask you not to be loyal to Prabowo. Be loyal to the nation and the state of Indonesia," the President told his cabinet.
The previous retreat in October 2024 faced some public criticism. Some observers felt the style was too militaristic or irrelevant to civil governance. Herdiansyah Hamzah, an academic from Mulawarman University, noted that national defense should not always prioritize physical training. He suggested that future training should focus more on rational guidance.
