TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is pushing for the free health check program to reach 20 million beneficiaries by the 80th Indonesia Independence Day on August 17, 2025.
Prabowo conveyed this directive to Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin. According to Budi, the number of participants in the free health check has reached 17 million. This number is recorded after the expansion of free health checks to schools starting on August 4.
"So, the President is very happy because now it's 17 million and he wants, if possible, by August 17, it could reach 20 million so that there will be significant achievements there," said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
In addition to the free health examinations, Prabowo also instructed the construction of hospitals in remote areas. Budi explained that out of the total 32 planned hospitals, 22 have had their foundation stones laid. The rest will follow in the second half of this year.
"The remaining ten will also be groundbreaking in the second semester. Hopefully, 12 to 15 hospitals can also be completed this year," he said.
Budi claimed that the public is pleased with the construction of hospitals in remote areas, such as the Reda Bolo Hospital in East Nusa Tenggara, as well as in Konawe, Buton, Anambas, Taliabu, and Nias. "These are areas that the President has paid attention to," he said.
The Health Minister stated that the president wants every regency and city in Indonesia to have adequate hospital facilities. In addition, the head of state is pushing for the initial targets to be gradually increased to cover all regions. The President also gave instructions for the deployment of doctors and the provision of medical equipment to proceed in tandem.
"He wants all 514 regencies and cities to have good hospitals. Then, we also discussed about these hospitals, once the equipment is available, it will require human resources and financing," said Budi. "He also conveyed how to expedite the deployment of doctors, especially specialist doctors. Then, also how to expedite the financing."
The man known as BGS stated that President Prabowo will inaugurate three large hospitals in the near future. The three hospitals are located in Jayapura, Jakarta, and Solo.
"We also discussed the inauguration of three hospitals. So, there is a hospital in Jayapura, a large Ministry of Health hospital. He has agreed to inaugurate it later. Then there is also a new PON hospital in Jakarta. If you go through Cawang, you can see how big it is. He has also agreed to inaugurate it soon, and there is a special heart hospital in Solo that is a grant from the UAE King," said Budi.
