TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto is set to meet a group of university professors and rectors from across Indonesia at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
Among those invited is Tjandra Yoga Aditama, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Indonesia.
“There is indeed an invitation to the Palace tomorrow involving professors from several universities,” Tjandra told Tempo on Tuesday, January 14, 2026.
Tjandra said he has not been informed of the specific agenda to be discussed during the meeting and noted that he received the invitation only on Monday. However, he confirmed that he would be unable to attend as he is currently in Hainan, China.
Tempo reviewed two official invitation letters addressed to professors and university leaders, both dated January 9, 2026.
The letters were issued by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology under reference numbers 0012/B/KS.11/2026 and 0013/B/KS.11/2026.
The first letter, titled “Briefing by the President of the Republic of Indonesia with Higher Education Leaders,” was signed by Director General of Higher Education Khairul Munadi.
The second letter, titled “Briefing by the President of the Republic of Indonesia with Higher Education,” also invited university leaders to attend the meeting at the Palace.
The invitations call on professors and university leaders to support the administration’s Asta Cita agenda, the development priorities of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. At least 180 professors are listed in the invitations, including Tjandra Yoga Aditama.
Several other academics contacted by Tempo confirmed receiving similar invitations. As of publication, Khairul Munadi had not responded to requests for comment.
Tempo also sought confirmation from State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya regarding the meeting’s agenda, but neither had replied.
This will not be the first time President Prabowo has convened higher education leaders at the Palace. On March 13, 2025, he invited rectors and senior university officials from both state and private institutions for a similar discussion.
Prabowo said the meeting aimed to allow academics to share insights on government programs, future plans, and broader national and global developments that could affect Indonesia.
He stressed that academics play a critical role not only in understanding domestic challenges but also in interpreting global issues that have direct implications for the country.
