TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto received Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, June 15, 2026, where the two sides discussed efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, including investment cooperation.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to expanding investment in Indonesia. According to Teddy, the Qatari government has pledged to invest US$4 billion in the country and is exploring opportunities to broaden cooperation across various sectors.
Teddy said the investment commitment reflects Qatar's confidence in Indonesia's economic prospects and long-term growth potential.
"It is also part of both countries' efforts to expand mutually beneficial partnerships," Teddy said in a written statement.
During the meeting, Sultan bin Saad also conveyed greetings from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to President Prabowo.
According to Teddy, the Emir expressed appreciation for Prabowo's leadership and Indonesia's economic progress, particularly government programs in healthcare, education, and free nutritious meals.
The meeting followed a separate visit by Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani to the Merdeka Palace on June 1.
During that meeting, Prabowo and Sheikh Saoud discussed a range of issues related to Indonesia-Qatar cooperation in strategic sectors.
Indonesia and Qatar have sought to deepen bilateral ties in recent years. In April 2025, Prabowo and Sheikh Tamim witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Strategic Dialogue between the governments of Indonesia and Qatar.
The agreement is designed to facilitate closer cooperation on a wide range of issues, including international and regional political affairs, defense and security, counterterrorism, trade and investment, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people relations.
The strategic dialogue framework is expected to serve as a platform for expanding collaboration and strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
