Russian Ambassador Calls to Accelerate Cooperation with Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov urged the acceleration of tangible results in bilateral cooperation. He recommended prioritizing the expansion of Russian products in the local market and the realization of various strategic infrastructure projects.

In an exclusive interview in Jakarta on Monday, Tolchenov told ANTARA that relations between the two countries must now go beyond mere political rhetoric in multilateral forums.

He emphasized the importance of setting and achieving concrete targets to foster a more productive and mutually beneficial ecosystem of cooperation for both parties.

"I am optimistic that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia will continue to develop steadily. What is expected is not just political statements, but more concrete results," Tolchenov emphasized.

As a tactical move to deepen economic integration, President Vladimir Putin has invited President Prabowo Subianto to attend a major industrial exhibition in Russia in May and July 2026. One of the main agendas will be held in the industrial city of Kazan, Tatarstan, as an effort to strengthen supply chains and technological collaboration between countries.

Tolchenov explained that the strengthening of this cooperation rests on a long historical foundation that began during the era of President Soekarno.

Since last year, relations between the two countries have increased to that of strategic partners, encompassing the military, political, economic, and people-to-people relations.

Through this direct invitation, Russia hopes to intensify high-level dialogue that will lead to increased investment and the presence of Russian manufactured products in Indonesia.
