SBY: AHY Is the Sole Leader of the Democratic Party

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chair of the Democratic Party's High Assembly, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), emphasized that there is only one leader in the party, which is Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). Yudhoyono, also known as SBY, conveyed this during the national Christmas celebration of the Democratic Party in Jakarta on Monday night, January 12, 2026.

He mentioned that Agus, as the Chair of the Democratic Party, should have delivered the main speech. However, Agus, who is currently serving as the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, was on duty accompanying President Prabowo Subianto on a working visit to Kalimantan.

"He is the leader of the party. I can be said to be a senior mentor. The only sun in the Democratic Party is Mas AHY," said Yudhoyono, quoted from the Democratic Party's YouTube account.

He emphasized that the Democratic Party adheres to the principle that the state and the people are paramount. "Country first, people first, and then the party. Don't reverse the order," said Yudhoyono.

Due to AHY's absence, the event organizers asked Yudhoyono to deliver the speech. "Therefore, I was tasked by the committee to deliver this speech on behalf of Mas AHY. When there is no cane, even roots are useful," said Yudhoyono.

During the event, Yudhoyono also mentioned that his party, together with Prabowo Subianto, must be part of the solution and progress. The 6th President of Indonesia assessed that the country is facing many problems.

Therefore, he invited all parties to do more for the country's interests. "The Democratic Party, together with President Prabowo, must be part of the solution, part of the progress," he said.

Yudhoyono believes that Indonesia can become a developed country. He also believes that by 2045, Indonesia can become a strong nation. However, he noted that the effort to achieve these aspirations is not easy. Therefore, effective leadership and togetherness are needed to build a better tomorrow. "No matter how heavy it is, there is always a solution," he said.

Yudhoyono then urged Democratic Party members to work as hard as they can. "Rowing upstream, swimming to the shore. Enduring efforts first, and then God willing, we will be happy in the end. Believe that where there is a will, there is a way," said Yudhoyono.
