TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inter Milan staged a dramatic comeback, defeating Napoli 3-2 at the Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
After falling two goals behind, the Nerazzurri rallied to win thanks to a brace from Lautaro Martinez.
This victory extends Inter's perfect start to the season—winning their first three matches—and places them at the top of the Italian league standings.
Conversely, Napoli suffered their second consecutive defeat, leaving them in 11th place with three points, according to the Lega Serie A website as cited by Antara.
The first half ended goalless, but Napoli came out strong after the break, scoring twice in the span of three minutes.
Matteo Politano opened the scoring for Napoli in the 50th minute. Capitalizing on an Inter error in their own defensive third, Politano pounced on a rebound to beat Josep Martinez.
Napoli doubled their lead in the 53rd minute. Rasmus Hojlund capitalized on a scramble inside the Inter penalty area, firing a precise shot beyond Martinez's reach.
Inter responded quickly. In the 57th minute, Martinez narrowed the deficit to 1-2; meeting a cut-back from Federico Dimarco, he finished with a close-range strike.
The Nerazzurri kept pushing for an equalizer. Their efforts paid off in the 82nd minute when Marcus Thuram scored with a powerful header from a Carlos Augusto cross.
At 2-2, the game opened up. Both teams had chances to score a winner, but it was Inter who ultimately capitalized.
In stoppage time, a scramble ensued in the Napoli penalty area following a high cross. Manuel Akanji then teed up Martinez, who immediately struck the ball home from close range.
