TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National strategic road segments in Peusangan Raya District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh, Indonesia, remain covered in mud following floods on Tuesday morning, December 2, 2025. Traffic has been slowed not only by the debris but also by thick dust lingering over the area.
Scattered chairs and fallen coconut tree trunks litter the roadside, while heavy equipment works to clear the mud. Several houses in the vicinity appear abandoned, their yards buried under a layer of diluted soil, Tempo’s observation found.
A similar situation has unfolded in Jangka District, Bireuen. “My house has been inundated with soil for five to six days,” said Dedi Adi of Ule Ceu Village.
In Bireuen Regency, the bridge connecting Juli District to Tekangon District has been cut off, isolating the Tekangon region. Residents are struggling to access food and medical supplies.
Sub-district officials, community health centers, and local organizations in Tepi Mani have stepped in to distribute aid from Juli to Tekangon using a cable car system.
“Most people need paracetamol and anti-diarrheal medicine, paracetamol is the most needed,” said Jepang Puspitasari, an official at the Juli Sub-district community health center.
Since November 25, floods and landslides have struck three provinces in Sumatra. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has recorded at least 604 fatalities.
