Sidoarjo Islamic Boarding School Building Collapses, One Student Dies and Dozens Injured

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A student was killed in a building collapse at the Al Khoziny Buduran Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, East Java. Meanwhile, dozens of other students were injured.

The Head of Public Relations at the East Java Regional Police, Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, mentioned that 83 students were victims of the collapse of the dormitory building at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School on Monday, September 29, 2025. They were successfully evacuated until Monday night at 7:00 p.m. local time.

"So far, there are approximately 83 victims," Jules told the media on Monday night.

Dozens of victims are currently receiving treatment at Siti Hajar Hospital, Notopuro Sidoarjo Regional Hospital, and Delta Surya Hospital. One of them reportedly passed away. 

Based on the information gathered, the deceased student was 15-year-old Maulana Alfan Ibrahim from Surabaya.

Currently, the Sidoarjo Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has set up a post at the scene to collect the data on victims and their families.

According to Tempo's observation, the building collapsed around 3:00 p.m. At that time, hundreds of students were performing the Asr congregational prayer on the building's second floor.
