TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Singapore Red Cross has donated around $1 million to aid the humanitarian relief efforts in the flood-hit areas of Nepal and Tibet, according to CNA and The Straits Times.
Fundraising was opened on August 28, with the Singaporean government committing $100,000 as seed money, which will be used to "support humanitarian relief efforts" in the devastated region and "address the immediate needs of affected communities."
The organization will accept donations until November 30.
The funds will supplement the earlier $50,000 pledge by the Singapore Red Cross, according to The Straits Times, which will support relief efforts in Nepal, including drinking water distribution and emergency supply procurement. These include tarpaulins, blankers, sleeping mats, first-aid kits, and body bags.
The Red Cross non-profit also opened its doors on Sunday for those affected by the floods. The organization has stationed trained volunteers at the Singapore's Red Cross House to provide psychological first aid, including breathing exercises and identifying signs of emotional distress.
Additionally, the Singapore Red Cross had activated the Restoring Family Links services as part of the efforts to reunite families separated by the disaster, regardless of nationality. The organization works with their Nepal counterparts and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent for this purpose.
Durga Naidu, the head of the Singapore Red Cross Academy’s Center for Psychosocial Resilience and Humanitarian Studies, said the organization "have the gate open" for those seeking help to encourage them to ask for help. Oftentimes, Durga said, people would not ask for help because they are "numb to what's going on."
While there had been no attendees for the Sunday session, the Singapore Red Cross continues to monitor demand and conduct similar sessions if the need rises.
“At any point of time that you’re aware that it’s about time that you need to go and get some help or talk to someone, we are here for you. That’s the message we’re trying to get across,” said Durga.

As explained by The Straits Times, here are several methods to donate in support of the relief efforts in the flood-hit Nepal-Tiber border region through the Singapore Red Cross fundraising:
Donations via credit card can be made via Giving.sg, DeeDa and Give.Asia
PayNow donations: Key in UEN: S86CC0370ERF1 and input “Nepal-Tibet Flash Floods (your NRIC, FIN or UEN)” under the bill reference.
Cheque is available, with payment to Singapore Red Cross Society, with “Nepal-Tibet Flash Floods” indicated on the back, as well as your name and postal address. Mail it to Red Cross House.
In-person donation can be made at Red Cross House at 15 Penang Lane, Singapore, during office hours.
You can also register as a third-party fundraiser with the Singapore Red Cross or set up a campaign on Giving.sg
The death toll of the flash floods in Nepal and Tibet had risen to 750 by August 30, with over 3,000 people remaining missing.
