TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police are probing a Lion Air passenger on a flight bound for Kualanamu, North Sumatra, who previously threw a fake bomb threat shortly before the plane took off from Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
"Intensive questioning is underway by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police," said Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Chief Commissioner Ronald Sipayung when contacted on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Previously, the passenger, a man with the initial H, was barred from taking the flight and was handed over to airport authorities for further processing. "One customer (passenger) was removed and reported to the authorities," said Danang Mandala Prihantoro, Corporate Communications Strategist of Lion Air, in a written statement on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Danang explained that H initially mentioned a bomb in the cabin when the Lion Air flight with flight number JT-308 had already "pushed back" and was preparing to head to the taxiway. The flight operated by a Boeing 737 aircraft with the registration PK-LRH was carrying 184 passengers at the time of the incident.
Subsequently, the cabin crew, following flight safety procedures, reconfirmed the passenger's statement. H then reiterated his remark. "This information was immediately reported to the captain and ground service personnel," said Danang.
The aircraft was then returned to apron (RTA) for further inspection, as the fake bomb remark was made while the plane was already moving.
The Lion Air plane was then directed back to the apron while H was disembarked. The passenger was then handed over to the authorities for investigation and further processing in accordance with applicable law. The authorities involved include aviation security personnel, the Airport Authority, the Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS), and the police.
