Spider-Man: Brand New Day Swings Into the Top 10 Highest Grossing Films of All Time

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The global box office list has a new record breaker. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has swung into the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time, crossing the US$2 billion mark less than three weeks after its release in July 29th, 2026. The latest Tom Holland Spider-Man movie has already become Sony Pictures' highest-grossing film ever, surpassing 2021's Spider-Man:No Way Home.

The film's US$2.02 billion worldwide haul also makes it the second fastest movie to reach this milestone, just behind all-timer Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) team-up movie Avengers: Endgame. According to Rotten TomatoesSpider-Man: Brand New Day also took the all-time opening weekend record with a US$360 million within the first opening weekend. 

It's arrival has definitely reshuffled the all-time highest grossing film rankings, although James Cameron's Avatar remains firmly at the top. Here's a list of the updated rankings. 

10 Highest Grossing Films of All Time

Citing Rotten Tomatoes, Deadline and other industry sources, here are the top 10 highest grossing films of all time:

1. Avatar (2009) – $2.92 billion

James Cameron's Avatar remains the highest-grossing film in history, with approximately $2.924 billion worldwide, including revenue from subsequent re-releases. The science-fiction epic claimed the record after surpassing Titanic in 2010. Avengers: Endgame briefly overtook it in 2019, but a later re-release in China in anticipation of its sequel Avatar: The Way of Water in 2021 returned it to the top spot.

2. Avengers: Endgame (2019) – $2.80 billion

Avengers: Endgame remains the second-highest-grossing film ever, with approximately $2.799 billion worldwide.

The conclusion to Marvel's Infinity Saga became a box-office phenomenon when it opened in April 2019. It earned more than $1.2 billion worldwide in its opening weekend and eventually became the first film to surpass $2 billion in less than two weeks.

3. Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) – $2.33 billion

Thirteen years after the original Avatar, James Cameron returned to Pandora with Avatar: The Way of Water.

The sequel earned about $2.33 billion worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing film of all time. Its success also reinforced James Cameron's extraordinary presence at the top of the global box office, with three of his films occupying positions in the all-time top five.

4. Ne Zha II (2025) – $2.27 billion

Ne Zha II grossed approximately $2.27 billion worldwide, overtaking several Hollywood blockbusters and becoming the first animated and non-American film to pass $2 billion.

Its performance was overwhelmingly driven by China, where the film broke multiple domestic box-office records before its international release expanded its global total.

5. Titanic (1997) – $2.27 billion

James Cameron's Titanic remains one of cinema's most enduring box-office successes.

Originally released in 1997, the film held the worldwide box-office record for roughly 12 years before Avatar surpassed it. Re-releases, including its 3D restoration, have helped push its lifetime worldwide gross to approximately US$2.265 billion. The film remains the only movie in the top five to have been released before the 21st century.

6. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) – $2.07 billion

The return of Star Wars to theaters after a decade-long absence became a global event.

The Force Awakens earned approximately $2.071 billion worldwide and remains the highest-grossing film in the Star Wars franchise. Its domestic performance was particularly remarkable, with the film earning approximately $937 million in North America alone.

7. Avengers: Infinity War (2018) – $2.05 billion

Before Endgame, Marvel's biggest box-office achievement was Avengers: Infinity War.

The film earned approximately $2.052 billion worldwide and became the first movie to cross $2 billion without receiving a major re-release. Its $257.7 million domestic opening weekend set a record at the time, only to be surpassed by Endgame one year later.

8. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) – $2.02 billion

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the newest addition to the billion-dollar elite.The film has earned more than $2.02 billion worldwide after only three weekends.

The film opened with more than $360 million in North America and added another $118.7 million internationally in its third weekend. Its international total has reached nearly $1.24 billion, with China contributing about $210 million. 

9. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) – $1.92 billion

Before Brand New Day, Spider-Man: No Way Home was Spider-Man's biggest film ever.

Released while the COVID-19 pandemic was still affecting movie theaters, the film nonetheless earned approximately $1.92 billion worldwide. Its multiverse storyline brought together characters from earlier Spider-Man films and helped turn the movie into a global theatrical event.

10. Zootopia 2 (2025) – $1.87 billion

Disney's Zootopia 2 rounds out the current top 10 with approximately $1.867 billion worldwide.

The sequel became one of the biggest animated releases in history, with international markets accounting for the majority of its earnings. Its worldwide haul put it ahead of several established animated franchises and made it the third animated film after Ne Zha II and Inside Out 2 to earn more than $1 billion outside North America.

From Cameron's long-running dominance to the extraordinary rise of Chinese animation and the return of Spider-Man to the top tier, the latest box-office rankings show that the race for the industry's biggest hits is far from settled.

And with Spider-Man: Brand New Day still in theaters, the top 10 could change again before its run is over.
