TEMPO.COJakarta - State-owned electricity company PT PLN announced the full re-operation of the 150 kV High Voltage Submarine Cable Network (SKLT) and High Voltage Underground Cable Network (SKTT) for the Sumatra-Bangka Circuit II. The restoration of this undersea network strengthens the electricity supply in the Bangka Belitung Islands, significantly boosting the reliability of the regional interconnection system.

Suroso Isnandar, PLN's Director of Project Management and New Renewable Energy, stated that the network's return to service is a vital step in distributing the national electricity supply. "Reliable electricity is not only a basic necessity but also a key driver of the economy. We ensure that the island regions also benefit from the electricity transformation," Suroso said in a press release on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

The cable network was damaged in 2023 at the Phase R cable, 14.7 kilometers from Tanjung Carat towards Tanjung Muntok. Since the incident, PLN conducted a gradual restoration process, beginning with technical inspections and reliability tests, and culminating in system synchronization. The entire restoration was completed with the final energization on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

With the network now back in service, the power transfer capacity from the Sumatra system to Bangka has increased from 60 megawatts (MW) to 100 MW.

Zaky Adikta, General Manager of PLN's South Sumatra Development Main Unit, explained that the restoration involved repairs to the 36 km SKLT and 3.9 km SKTT, which connect the Sumatra-Bangka system via the Tanjung Carat-Muntok point.

"Despite facing technical challenges, the work was completed thanks to the synergy between local governments, working partners, and the community," he said.

Ira Savitri, General Manager of PLN's Bangka Belitung Regional Main Unit, expressed appreciation for the support of various parties in the network's return to operation. She added that the improved electricity reliability will strengthen the region's economic competitiveness and drive investment in Bangka Belitung.

"With this additional supply, electricity conditions in Bangka Belitung are stable once again and ready to support economic growth, the industrial sector, and public services," she concluded.
