'The White Lotus' Trades Tropical Resorts for a French Castle in Season 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The popular HBO anthology series The White Lotus is set to move its main filming location to France for its fourth season, marking a significant departure from the settings used in previous installments.

Unlike the first three seasons, which were filmed at Four Seasons resorts around the world, Season 4 will reportedly be set at Chateau de La Messardiere, a historic castle hotel in Saint Tropez on the French Riviera.

The 19th century property is part of the Airelles Collection, a group of luxury hotels owned by Stephane Courbit, the founder and chairman of Banijay Group, the production company behind shows such as Survivor and Peaky Blinders.

A Historic Luxury Setting

Originally built in the late 1800s, Chateau de La Messardiere was later restored and converted into a luxury hotel. The property spans 32 hectares and is surrounded by umbrella pines, cedar trees, and jasmine, making it a major destination for high end travelers.

According to Variety, the hotel features multiple restaurants and bars, a spa, several swimming pools, and a private beach club overlooking Pampelonne Bay. Room rates are reported to range from US$3,000 to US$8,000 per night, offering an opulent backdrop for the series signature mix of glamour and tension.

Filming is scheduled to take place between April and October 2026. Additional scenes are expected to be shot at other locations across the French Riviera and in Paris, though plot details remain under wraps.

A Break from Tradition

Since its debut, The White Lotus has been closely associated with Four Seasons resorts. The first season was filmed at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea in Hawaii, while the second season was set at the San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Italy.

The third season was filmed primarily at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, with several locations in Thailand combined into a single fictional resort.

Season 4 will mark the first time the series is not centered on a Four Seasons property. Instead, it will adopt a European castle hotel setting, offering a different atmosphere from the tropical beach resorts that defined earlier seasons.

HBO has not officially confirmed the filming location. However, several cast members have reportedly joined the upcoming season, including Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka.
