TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Medan, has received reports about three elderly Malaysian tourists who have been unreachable since the floods and landslides struck several areas in Sumatra, Indonesia.
"The Consulate General has also received reports from the public regarding three Malaysian tourists who have been uncontactable since 27 November 2025, two men and one woman, aged between 63 and 64 years old," the consulate general wrote in a statement, as quoted on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Initial information suggests that the three Malaysian tourists were last believed to be in Aceh or North Sumatra. The Consulate General of Malaysia stated that they are currently working with local authorities to confirm the whereabouts of their citizens and provide necessary assistance.
The report adds to the list of Malaysian citizens missing in the disaster-hit areas in Sumatra.
Previously, one Malaysian citizen was reported missing after the floods and landslides in West Sumatra.
The Consulate General of Malaysia identified the missing citizen in West Sumatra as Asrul Nizam bin Apridwson, 30 years old.
The Consulate General of Malaysia is currently coordinating with Indonesian authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operation.
Based on initial information, Asrul was reportedly traveling by car with seven Indonesian citizens, believed to be family members, and was hit by a landslide.
Four of the Indonesian passengers have been found, while the search operation is ongoing for Asrul and three other Indonesians in the vehicle.
The parents of the victim are currently in Padang, and the Consulate General of Malaysia is providing the necessary support and assistance to the family while there.
The Consulate General of Malaysia urges Malaysian citizens in the affected areas in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh to "exercise extreme caution, remain alert, and adhere to all guidance issued by local authorities."
The families of Malaysian citizens in the affected areas who have been unable to contact their relatives are strongly encouraged to immediately contact the Consulate General of Malaysia in Medan for assistance, especially considering the forecasts for continued bad weather.
