A video claiming that Muslims in Surabaya carried Israeli flag during a demonstration has been circulating on social media platforms like X [archive], Facebook (account one, two, and three), and Instagram since early January 2026.

In the short, 17-second video, a protester, while walking, states that thousands of Muslims in Surabaya were demonstrating peacefully. "We carried the Israeli flag as a sign that we want peace, not hatred. Allahu Akbar! Islam is a religion of peace! May the world hear our message," he said.

However, was it true that there was a demonstration by Muslims carrying Israeli flags in Surabaya?

2. BMKG Warns of Continued Rainfall in Greater Jakarta Area

Light rain has been falling consistently across the Indonesia's Jakarta Greater Area (Jabodetabek) on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), rainfall has been steady from Jakarta to Tangerang, Bekasi to Bogor, as well as in Depok and South Tangerang.

This weather continues a pattern observed since last Sunday when Jabodetabek experienced persistent rain, with some areas reporting very heavy and extreme downpours.

The rainfall has caused flooding in several locations and along key roadways, leading to widespread disruptions.

3. Israel Opens Fire on Spanish UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon

The United Nations (UN) peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said on Tuesday that Israeli tanks fired on a location near a position of its Spanish UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.

According to Spanish media outlet El Pais, as quoted by Russia Today, this is not the first incident involving Spanish peacekeepers, who frequently report harassment by Israeli forces who "consider their presence unwanted" as they observe operations in southern Lebanon.

The Spanish contingent is reportedly one of UNIFIL's largest, with more than 600 troops deployed in the mission.

UNIFIL reported two attacks in the past 24 hours on personnel clearly identifiable as UN staff: those wearing blue helmets and blue jackets bearing the UN logo.
