Tour de Ambarrukmo Attracts 1,200 Cyclists to Explore Yogyakarta's Scenic Routes

10 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - A total of 1,200 cyclists from various regions in Indonesia as well as Australia and Singapore, are confirmed to take part in the sport tourism event called Tour de Ambarrukmo (TDA) which will be held on August 2, 2025. The event, now in its 7th year, offers two route categories for participants, namely the Regular Route covering a distance of 138 kilometers and the Race Route covering a distance of 155 kilometers.

Both routes have elevations of up to 1,000 meters and will pass through the urban areas of Yogyakarta, the rural areas of Kulon Progo Regency, the coast of Bantul Regency, and the historical temple sites in Sleman Regency. The estimated travel time for this event is between 6-7 hours.

Promoting Tourism in Yogyakarta

The event, which is also held to enliven the 80th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia this year, is expected to be more than just a regular sports event. It is also intended as a means to promote tourism and drive the local economy in Yogyakarta, considering the recent end of the long school holiday season.

The Chairman of the TDA 2025 Committee, Indra Gunawan Wicaksono, targets for this event to become the foundation of the interdependent tourism ecosystem in Yogyakarta. 'The majority of the participants in this event come from outside Yogyakarta, thus having a positive impact on local businesses,' he said on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Challenges at the Legendary Uphill

In the provided routes, the main challenge will be on the legendary uphill of Panggang, which is part of the King of Mountain (KOM) and Queen of Mountain (QOM) categories.

The route also includes four checkpoint points, namely the Tirtorahayu Village (Kulon Progo), Parangtritis Terminal (Bantul), Prambanan Temple (Sleman), and Omah Kupu Kopi Panggang (Gunungkidul).

The start will begin at 05:45 AM local time from the outdoor area of Plaza Ambarrukmo, and the cyclists will be accompanied by a lead rider team, marshals, medical team, and mechanics. The distribution of the participants' equipment (race pack) for Tour de Ambarrukmo is scheduled for July 31 to August 1, 2025, at the Race Village Main Atrium Plaza Ambarrukmo, in conjunction with a sports exhibition and local culinary bazaar.
