TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of the United States Donald Trump recently announced a new stance on reciprocal tariffs, stating that countries without a trade agreement with the US will face import duties averaging between 15 and 20 percent.
According to CNBC, Trump made the statement during a press conference alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland on Monday, July 28.
When asked about the scope of new tariffs for countries around the world, the Republican president replied, “For the world, I would say it’ll be somewhere in the 15% to 20% range ... I just want to be nice.”
This indicates that nations that have not engaged in trade negotiations could face tariffs starting at 15 percent. That rate is still lower than the 19 percent currently applied to Indonesia, despite the country having participated in several rounds of negotiations with Washington.
