TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned of a potential tsunami in Indonesian waters following an 8.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Russia, 164 kilometers southeast of Kamchatka, Russia, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 6:24:54 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
"There is a potential tsunami in the areas of Gorontalo, North Maluku, West Papua, Papua, and North Sulawesi. The tsunami potential should be communicated to the public. Follow tsunami early warning instructions from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and BMKG," the BMKG said in a statement on Wednesday.

- ALERT: PAPUA, SUPIORI (estimated arrival time: 07-30-2025 14:21:54 WIB)
- ALERT: PAPUABAR, NORTH SORONG (estimated arrival time: 07-30-2025 14:24:54 WIB)

BMKG also issued the following instructions:
1. Government Provinces/Districts/Cities with "Alert" status are expected to pay attention and immediately direct the public to conduct a complete evacuation.
