TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Speculation surrounding the future of TWICE member Tzuyu has intensified this week. On Tuesday, July 14, the South Korean media outlet News1 reported that the 27-year-old Taiwanese singer, whose real name is Chou Tzu-yu, had reached an agreement not to renew her contract with JYP Entertainment after 11 years with the agency.
Despite the reports of her agency departure, Soompi clarified that the singer is expected to remain a member of TWICE along with Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Chaeyoung. According to the reports, she intends to continue participating in group activities as usual.
In response to the circulating news, JYP Entertainment offered a cautious update. As noted by Soompi, the agency stated, “TWICE is currently in the period of discussing contract renewals, and we will inform you as soon as matters are finalized.”
TWICE debuted in 2015 and is approaching its 11th anniversary this October. The group recently concluded its record-breaking sixth world tour, "THIS IS FOR," with a three-night concert series at Seoul's KSPO Dome. Chosun Biz noted that since the group completed a full-group contract renewal in 2022, there is heightened public interest in the individual future plans of each member.
The spotlight on TWICE's future also extends to other members. Rumors regarding other members have also surfaced, specifically citing a report that member Jeongyeon had met with Baro Entertainment.
In the meantime, Tzuyu remains active in her personal ventures; Channel News Asia highlighted her viral cover of Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun's "First Day" during a festival in Taiwan.
