TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-23 national team failed to win the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup after losing in the final. However, two players of Garuda Muda (Young Garuda) made it into the list of individual award winners.
Indonesia had to settle for being the runner-up in this Southeast Asian level tournament. They lost 0-1 to the Vietnamese U-23 national team in the final match at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 29, 2025.
Amid the disappointment, there was a small consolation for Indonesia. Two players, Jens Raven and Muhammad Ardiansyah, managed to clinch individual titles. Raven became the top scorer, while Ardiansyah was named the best goalkeeper.
Jens Raven scored seven goals for Indonesia. Six of his goals were against Brunei Darussalam in the first match. He also scored one goal against Thailand.
Muhammad Ardiansyah was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament as he only conceded two goals in four matches. He also managed to keep two clean sheets, meaning he did not concede any goals during those matches.
Meanwhile, Filipino forward Otu Abang Banatao received the Rising Star individual title in the tournament for his promising performances, scoring three goals in five appearances.
The best player of the Piala AFF U-23 2025 title was awarded to Vietnamese attacking midfielder Nguyen Dinh Bac, who managed to score two goals and provide one assist in a total of four matches.
Overall, Vietnam emerged as the champion after defeating Indonesia in the final match with a score of 1-0, while Thailand secured the third position by overcoming the Philippines with a score of 3-1 in the third-place play-off.
