TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vietnam evacuated nearly 30,000 residents from coastal areas on Sunday, September 28, 2025, as Typhoon Bualoi hit the central region of the country. Typhoon Bualoi is the 10th storm to hit Vietnam this year.

According to CNA, the storm made landfall after 10 PM and produced winds at a speed of 130 km/h, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. More than 28,500 people were evacuated from the provinces and cities between Ninh Binh and Quang Ngai. One person died and four others are missing, according to Vietnam's disaster management and dyke authorities.

More than 15,000 residents in Ha Tinh, known as a major steel production center, were scheduled to be evacuated to schools. Medical centers were transformed into temporary shelters, authorities said earlier that day.

Nearly 117,000 military personnel have been mobilized. Four domestic airports were closed, and all fishing vessels in the path of the typhoon have returned to port.

"I feel a bit anxious but still hopeful that everything will be fine in the aftermath. We were all safe after the recent typhoon Kajiki. I hope this one will be the same or less severe," said Nguyen Cuong, 29, a resident of Ha Tinh City.

"This is a fast-moving storm with very strong intensity and a wide area of impact, capable of causing a combination of various types of natural disasters such as strong winds, heavy rain, floods, landslides, and coastal inundation," quoted center director Mai Van Khiem from government media.

Scientists warn that storms are growing stronger as the Earth warms due to human-induced climate change.

In Vietnam, more than 100 people have died or gone missing due to natural disasters in the first seven months of 2025, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. Vietnam suffered an economic loss of $3.3 billion last September due to Typhoon Yagi, which hit the northern region of the country and caused hundreds of casualties.
