TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Iranian delegation arrived in Switzerland on Saturday evening, June 20, local time for talks with the United States (US) at the Burgenstock resort to end the conflict in the Middle East.
"We welcome the arrival of the Iranian delegation in Switzerland," the Swiss Foreign Ministry announced on X, adding that the Iranian delegation was en route to the resort as part of the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed earlier by the US and Iran.
Meanwhile, according to Iran's state-run broadcaster, IRIB TV, the Iranian negotiating delegation, codenamed "Minab 168," has arrived in Switzerland. The delegation is led by Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, according to Xinhua.
Meanwhile, citing DW, US Vice President JD Vance, who leads the American delegation for the talks with Iran, has arrived in Switzerland. He landed at Emmen Air Base outside Lucerne at just before 6:00 a.m. local time.
"[We hope] to make progress on the nuclear issue, make progress on the Lebanon ceasefire issue," Vance said before boarding his flight.
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) also said mediators of Pakistan and Qatar have arrived at Bergenstock resort for the talks between Washington and Tehran.
Earlier on Saturday, Switzerland stated that it continues to provide a "discreet and reliable setting" to facilitate negotiations at the Burgenstock resort.
Initial negotiations on the implementation of the interim peace agreement between the two sides were originally scheduled for Friday, June 19, but were later postponed.
