TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian rupiah exchange rate on Monday morning, June 15, 2026, strengthened by 82 points or 0.46 percent to Rp17,778 per US dollar. In the previous trading closing position, the rupiah was at 17,860 per US dollar.
Currency analyst Doo Financial Futures Lukman Leong stated that the strengthening rupiah was triggered by hopes for peace in the Middle East between the United States and Iran. "The rupiah has the potential to strengthen again against the US dollar amid increasing hopes for peace in the Middle East, triggering a risk-on sentiment and a decrease in world crude oil prices. The US dollar index fell due to reports that an interim peace agreement between the US and Iran has been reached," said Lukman, as quoted by ANTARA.
It is reported that the final agreement between Iran and the United States will be ratified through a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution. Previously, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the U.S. has been finalized and is set to be signed in Switzerland on Friday, June 19.
Based on the draft, the U.S. has also committed not to interfere in Iran's domestic affairs and to respect the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Additionally, the draft stipulates that the Strait of Hormuz will open within 30 days of the signing of the memorandum of understanding by both parties.
Based on these factors, the rupiah is predicted to fluctuate between Rp17,750 and Rp17,850 per U.S. dollar.
