Several incidents occurred during the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup Championship final between the Indonesian U-23 national team and Vietnam at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday evening, July 29, 2025. One of these incidents occurred near the end of the match, resulting in Vietnam coach Kim Sang-sik being shown a yellow card by referee Koji Takasaki. Kim was allegedly charged with a foul for attempting to obstruct Indonesian player Robi Darwis from taking a throw-in.

The water bottle incident provoked a heated argument between the assistant coaches and Indonesian players on the bench. Tensions escalated as people pushed each other in the area.
From the stadium's West Stand, numerous mineral water bottles were visible right near where Kim was standing. The Vietnamese coaching staff continued to supply the bottles to the side of the field near the white line. This collection of mineral water bottles was visible from about 50 meters away.
The 2025 AFF U-23 Cup Championship title match heated up towards the end of the second half. Indonesia, trailing by one goal, increased its attacking intensity in an attempt to score a goal. The players became increasingly emotional. There was pushing, tackling, and other unsportsmanlike behavior, including by coach Kim and his staff on the bench.
The two teams also previously faced each other in the final of the previous AFF U-23 Cup Championship in 2023. Indonesia also lost 6-5 on penalties after a goalless draw. At that time, the Garuda Muda were coached by Shin Tae-yong. With these two consecutive final losses, Indonesia failed to repeat their success in winning the AFF U-23 Cup Championship in 2019. At that time, the U-23 national team was coached by Indra Sjafri.
Meanwhile, Vietnam cemented its position as the most successful team in the AFF U-23 Cup Championship, which began in 2025, winning three consecutive titles in 2022, 2023, and 2025. Indonesia and Thailand have each won only once in the ASEAN football championship, which has only been held for five editions.
