Wrestling Legend Hulk Hogan Passes Away at 71; WWE Mourns Loss

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Legendary wrestler Hulk Hogan has passed away at the age of 71. World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced his death on their social media account, X, on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

"WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans," the WWE announcement read.

The cause of death for the wrestler, whose real name was Terry Gene Bollea, is not yet known. Hogan had undergone heart surgery in June 2025.

Hulk Hogan began his wrestling career in the 1970s, winning his first title, the NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship, in December 1979.

In 1979, Hogan joined the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), where he secured six WWF championship titles between 1979 and 1993.

Hogan was an iconic figure in the WWF arena, renowned for his unique hair and mustache style, and his vibrant yellow and red attire.

In addition to WWF, Hogan also competed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) from 1980 to 1985 and again from 1993 to 1994. He won the NJPW Heavyweight Championship in 1983, defeating the legendary Japanese wrestler, Antonio Inoki.

Outside the wrestling ring, Hogan also pursued an acting career, appearing in 15 films, including Rocky III and Gremlins 2.
