Zarof Ricar, Former Supreme Court Official, Faces 20-Year Sentence for Corruption

1 month ago 28

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prosecutors have requested a 20-year prison sentence for former Supreme Court official Zarof Ricar, who has been found guilty of corruption in connection with the alleged handling of the Gregorius Ronald Tannur case. According to the prosecution, Zarof Ricar was involved in a conspiracy, gave bribes, and accepted illicit gratifications.

"To impose a basic sentence on the defendant Zarof Ricar with a prison sentence of 20 years, to be reduced during the defendant's detention," said Prosecutor General Nurachman Adikusumo at the Corruption Court, Central Jakarta District Court, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

In addition to the prison sentence, prosecutors are seeking a fine of Rp 1 billion. If unpaid, the fine would be replaced by six months of imprisonment.

"To impose additional penalties on the defendant in the form of confiscation of goods used for or obtained from corrupt actions," Nurachman added.

The confiscated items include cash in Indonesian rupiah, Singapore dollars, and Hong Kong dollars.

Prosecutors cited several aggravating factors in their sentencing request. They argued that Zarof Ricar's actions undermined the government’s efforts to promote clean and corruption-free governance, eroded public trust in the judiciary, and involved repeated misconduct to achieve criminal objectives.

"As a mitigating factor, the defendant has never been convicted before," said Nurachman.

Zarof Ricar has been charged under Article 6 paragraph (1) letter a and Article 12 B in conjunction with Article 15 and Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption, under both the first and second alternative cumulative charges.
