TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The latest survey from Bank Indonesia (BI) shows that retailers' expectations for retail sales in November 2025 have increased but slowed down in February 2026. BI's data is measured through the Retail Sales Expectations Index (IEP).

The survey measures expectations for the next three to six months. "The November IEP stands at 146.8, higher than the previous period," as stated in BI's retail sales survey released on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Based on information collected by BI, respondents attribute the increase in November 2025 IEP to the presence of religious holidays, namely Christmas. Meanwhile, in February 2026, the IEP recorded 142.3, lower than the previous period's 157.5, due to a decrease in working days.

Retail sales performance is expected to continue growing in August 2025, although at a slower rate than the previous month. Monthly, retail sales in August 2025 are estimated to contract by 0.3 percent. This figure, however, is an improvement compared to the 4.1 percent contraction in the previous month.

The Real Sales Index (IPR) in September 2025 grew by 3.5 percent compared to the previous year. The performance of retail sales is mainly supported by the growth of sales in food, beverages, and tobacco groups, as well as other household equipment, and cultural and recreational goods.

Although retail sales performance is predicted to grow in September 2025, it contracted from the previous month. Monthly, retail sales in September 2025 are estimated to contract by 0.3 percent, following a 0.6 percent contraction in August.

Meanwhile, the Real Sales Index (IPR) grew by 3.5 percent in August 2025 compared to the previous year, which is lower than the 4.7 percent growth seen the previous month.

The performance of sales in sub-groups such as clothing recorded an increase of 8.3 percent. Sales of motor vehicle fuels grew by 11.7 percent annually. Cultural and recreational goods grew by 2.5 percent.

On the other hand, sales of information and communication equipment contracted by 28.9 percent annually. Sales of other household equipment declined by 1.8 percent.
