TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has been linked to Jeffrey Epstein following the release of Department of Justice documents detailing their past communications. While Gates denied any involvement in Epstein’s alleged abuse, stating he “did nothing illicit,” he acknowledged personal misconduct during that period.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with employees of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Gates addressed questions surrounding his association with the convicted sex offender. Among the disclosures, he admitted to having two affairs with Russian women while married to Melinda French Gates.
According to CNBC, citing The Wall Street Journal, Gates revealed he had an affair with a Russian bridge player and a Russian nuclear physicist. The admission followed the release of emails showing that Gates and Epstein discussed philanthropic fundraising, Microsoft’s CEO search, and even made a small bet on the euro’s performance.
As reported by Forbes, Epstein later learned about these affairs and allegedly used that information to threaten Gates in the mid 2010s.
Gates also clarified that although he met Epstein in several countries, he never stayed overnight, never visited Epstein’s private island, and never witnessed or engaged in any illicit activity. He added that Melinda had long been skeptical of his association with Epstein, previously describing it as “abhorrent,” and that the relationship was cited as one contributing factor to their 2021 divorce.
Gates first met Epstein in January 2011 at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse after an introduction by foundation officials. Their contact reportedly continued until 2014, during which they met regularly. As noted by the BBC, Gates has repeatedly described his association with Epstein as a “huge mistake.”
