TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Region III Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Center (BBMKG) in Denpasar has urged the public to stay alert for potential tidal flooding, or maximum high tides, along six coastal areas of Bali from August 11 to 17.

"This is driven by the lunar perigee phenomenon," said Cahyo Nugroho, head of BBMKG Region III, in Denpasar on Thursday.

He explained that the lunar perigee phase, when the moon is at its closest point to Earth on August 10, combined with the new moon on August 13, could raise maximum sea levels across several coastal areas of the island.

The six coastal areas include the southern coasts of Jembrana, Tabanan, and Klungkung regencies, along with the coastlines of Badung Regency, Denpasar City, and Gianyar Regency.

Cahyo added that the timing of these maximum tides, both the specific days and hours, will vary across these regions.

Regarding the impact of the tidal flooding, he noted that it could affect port loading and unloading operations, coastal residential areas, as well as salt farming and inland fishery activities.

The agency urges the public to monitor the latest weather information from BMKG via social media (@infobmkg, @bmkgbali), the Info BMKG app, and the websites bbmkg3.bmkg.go.id or maritim.bmkg.go.id.
