TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) intercepted two general aviation aircraft that entered restricted airspace near President Donald Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Sunday as he attended a LIV Golf tournament.

F-16 fighter jets safely escorted the two aircraft out of the restricted area, NORAD said in a statement. Trump spent the weekend at his Bedminster club, which hosted the four-day LIV Golf New York tournament.

The incidents occurred while temporary flight restrictions were in effect around the area because of the president’s presence. NORAD did not immediately say whether the pilots had entered the restricted airspace by mistake, leaving that determination to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

As reported by Reuters, pilots are required to check with the FAA for temporary airspace restrictions before every flight. NORAD declined to say whether the pilots had made an error, while the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The first two aircraft were safely escorted from the restricted airspace by the F-16s. NORAD said its fighter jets intervened after the aircraft violated temporary flight restrictions established for the area.

The incidents came as security measures were tightened around Bedminster, where Trump was attending the LIV Golf New York tournament. The president was scheduled to return to Washington later Sunday.

A third general aviation aircraft also triggered an alert in the restricted area as Trump prepared to leave New Jersey. The aircraft reestablished communications and complied with instructions before NORAD intervention was required.

According to Fox News, the third incident appeared to delay Trump’s departure by about 13 minutes. Emergency SUVs, law enforcement officers and U.S. Secret Service agents were seen moving into position near the runway where Trump was scheduled to depart at around 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

Video footage captured one of the earlier interceptions, showing an F-16 fighter jet approaching what appeared to be a small Cessna aircraft near Jefferson Township, outside Bedminster.

NORAD had previously warned that it would enforce multiple FAA-established temporary flight restrictions over the region during Trump’s visit. Such restrictions are routinely imposed for presidential movements, major sporting events, national security operations and other special events.

Officials also reminded general aviation pilots to check Notices to Airmen, or NOTAMs, before every flight for updated information on temporary restrictions and other flight procedures.

The 1st Air Force/Air Forces Northern post on X urged pilots to “Check NOTAMs before EVERY flight!”

If intercepted by NORAD aircraft, pilots are instructed to immediately switch their radio frequency to 121.5 or 243.0 and reverse course while awaiting further instructions, according to information published by the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.

The service also said U.S. Army ground-based defense assets could be operating in the area under the Continental U.S. NORAD Region as part of a layered defense posture.

“These systems are operating under NORAD authorities,” the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service said, describing them as a routine component of efforts to monitor and protect U.S. airspace.

NORAD uses a network of radars, satellites, fighter aircraft and other surveillance capabilities to identify and respond to potential threats or unauthorized aircraft in North American airspace.

Trump was scheduled to fly back to Washington from Bedminster later Sunday after attending the LIV Golf event.
