TEMPO.COJakarta - Successive earthquakes rocked the Bogor and Sukabumi regions before and after midnight. Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the first tremor with a magnitude of 4.0 on Saturday night, September 20, 2025, at 11:47 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time). The earthquake source located on land was then followed by several subsequent tremors.

The 4.0 magnitude earthquake was centered at coordinates 6.75 degrees South Latitude and 106.58 degrees East Longitude. "It is precisely located on land 26 kilometers northeast of Sukabumi Regency," said the Head of BMKG Region II Tangerang, Hartanto, in a written statement. The earthquake is classified as shallow, with a depth of 7 kilometers due to active fault activities.

The impact of the earthquake as depicted on the BMKG shake map and from reports of the community, the tremors were felt in the Kalapanunggal area of Sukabumi Regency, and Kabandungan in Bogor Regency. The earthquake intensity ranges from III-IV MMI, where the tremors were felt significantly inside the houses, almost as if a truck was passing by, and it could cause pottery to break, windows or doors to rattle, and walls to make noise.

Meanwhile, in the Pamijahan and Leuwiliang areas, the earthquake intensity was III MMI, then in Bogor II-III MMI. The tremors were also felt in Pelabuhan Ratu and Parungkuda with an intensity of II MMI. Until early Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 12:03 AM WIB, BMKG recorded five subsequent earthquakes.

The subsequent earthquakes were felt by residents on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:56 PM WIB with a magnitude of 3.0. The earthquake source or epicenter is located at coordinates 6.72 degrees South Latitude and 106.6 degrees East Longitude, or precisely located on land 25 kilometers southwest of Bogor City at a depth of 6 kilometers due to active fault movements.

Residents in the Kalapanunggal and Kabandungan areas felt the tremor with an intensity of II-III MMI. The tremors started by shaking lightweight objects that were hanging and were felt significantly inside the houses as if a truck was passing by. In Pamijahan, Leuwiliang, and Bogor, the tremors had an intensity of II MMI, only felt by a few people, and caused lightweight hanging objects to sway.

The next tremor felt by residents on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:57 PM WIB had a magnitude of 2.8. The earthquake source was located at coordinates 6.75 degrees South Latitude and 106.59 degrees East Longitude, or precisely located on land 26 kilometers northeast of Sukabumi Regency at a depth of 9 kilometers. The areas that felt the tremor were Kalapanunggal and Kabandungan with an intensity between II-III MMI, then Pamijahan, Leuwiliang, and Bogor with an intensity of II MMI.

As the day changed, an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 occurred early on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 12:22 AM WIB, felt in the Kalapanunggal and Kabandungan areas with an intensity of II MMI.

From the latest BMKG records, the next subsequent earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 occurred early on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 1:59 AM WIB. Residents in Leuwiliang, Pamijahan, and Kabandungan felt the earthquake with an intensity of III MMI, then in Cibadak II-III MMI, and Pelabuhan Ratu with an intensity of II MMI. "There have been no reports of building damage as a result of the earthquake," said Hartanto.

The BMKG urges the public to remain calm and not be influenced by unverifiable rumors.
